Hi, I didn't know where to post this but for a few months now my Mac has developed a really annoying habit whereby everytime I add anything to the desktop, be it a download, picture, text file or whatever, the system automatically creates 2 folders on the desktop titled 'JPEG Images' and 'Original Images' so I delete them but once again when anthing is added to the desktop they reappear again. Its not a life or death problem I know but its seriously irritating and if anyone could help me sort this out it would be much appreciated.. Thanks.. :)

It sounds like you've accidentally attached an Automator script (probably "convert to JPEG) to your Desktop folder as a "folder action". The upshot of this is that every time an image is saved to the desktop, the folder action is triggered, and the script creates a folder for the original and converted images automatically.

Easy to check--go to your Home folder, find the Desktop folder there, right-click (or command-click) on it, and see if the pop-up menu says "Enable Folder Actions" or "Disable Folder Actions" down toward the bottom. If it says "Disable", then Folder Actions are enabled, and that's your problem--disable it.

If it's not enabled, I'd guess it's something similar, but I don't know what specifically.
