I'm new to buying Macs, always wanted one but could never could afford one. But now I'm able to buy a iMac...at a budget. I only have $2200 to spend (can go over a little for tax.) I'm able to get the education discount so that saves me $200. I just don't know which iMac to buy. I'm not into gaming so much but I do run multiple heavy applications at once. I'm just not sure if I need the i5 or i7 proccesor. And how much RAM to get. I know I want the fusion drive though.

Well....

from your post, multiple open apps call for screen real state and RAM. So, IMHO, go for a 27 inch one and do an aftermarket RAM upgrade. Not sure about a performance gain between the i5 and i7 chip without knowing examples of apps used
