help needed with calibration/colour management

Hello everyone, i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice regarding calibrating my scanner, monitor and printer so that i can print reliably. I'm attempting to print images scanned from colour transparencies and am rather confused with all the colour profiling etc etc.

any help would be appreciated.

im using an imac G3, canon 8800f scanner and epson photo 1290 printer.
