I've just popped in a new HD for my iBook and it can detect the new drive but won't allow me to install to it, I have formatted it and it seems I can do anything that disk utility will allow but it won't let me install, does anybody know why?

I also have 6 screws left over! :)

Did you erase it and journal it? Do you have original iBook discs or Tiger retail disc? If you start up from the discs, there should be no problem installing the system software onto the new drive.

I tried your suggestions and guess what as usual with Apple its always something simple.

I needed to just reboot after formatting the drive. I now have a wonderful 80GB 7200 rpm drive installed. :)

Still unsure about these 6 screws though...
