Hi guys,

I’ve searched what feels like the whole of the internet to find the correct cable combo to install a second HD using the optical sata connector on the interconnect board of my Mac Mini (A1176).
I’m using the iFixit guide and in it, it states:
The two cables you need are:
  • 15 pin SATA power to 4 pin Molex power. male/female/with data/without data?
  • 6 pin SATA power to 4 pin Molex power. male/female/with data/without data?
I can’t find what looks like the correct product? I have the mini in pieces to help me identify the connectors but after a day looking around, I turn to MacRumors!!

This is the guide I’m using from iFixit, its for the newer A1283 model but still applies to mine.

Could someone tell me what exactly i need

TIA

Your optical drive is PATA, not SATA.

You're going to need a bay/adapter card that converts from PATA to SATA. Search around for something like "PATA optibay" and you should be able to find what others are using.

you have a 2007

1.83 model or the 2.0 has a pata connection for the optical it is more expensive to do that upgrade

Thank you!!!

No wonder I couldnt find the right sata connector

Picked up the pata caddy for £12 delivered. I actually have the sata caddy for installing an additional HD in my iMac.

Thanks again guys, appreciated.
