Hey guys,

I’ve got a brand spankin new MP (12 core, W5700X GPU) and ProDisplay XDR with screen flicker (screen goes dark about two times) and momentary resizing that only happens during login (at the end of the load in progress bar). Is this normal behavior? Seems strange coming from an MBP but thought I would check.
thanks.

You can set my setup in the signature; I've not experienced a 'screen flicker' issue at all.

this is what it looks like. I’ve got no other displays connected and the ProDisplay XDR is hooked up to one of the top thunderbolt ports.
Any else have anything similar or want to weigh in please?

Never had that type of glitch. Hang in there as there are a lot of knowledgable pro users here and they will get to you soon, I'm sure.

Wondering if this is something normally seen with this card (W5700X) but can't confirm with anyone. Apple support doesn't even reply to messages. Not sure what to do at this point.

Mine does drop to black and back 2-3 times during startup, but I don't recall any resizing. If I log out, when I log back in there is one quick flicker. W5700X 16-core

that’s helpful thank you. Had a feeling it may be what is within the range of expected for our particular GPU but it’s interesting that OkiRun with the Vega does not have this. It’s a nonissue I guess cause you don’t really shut down that much but it’s important to know it’s not an indicator of bigger issues.

Could it be an issue by connecting to the top ports similar to what is described here?

See Post #385-387: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/w5700x-release.2219274/page-16

that’s funny I just posted in that thread as well.
it happens whether I connect to the top ports or the ones on the module. It doesn’t make a difference.
I don’t know what to make of it at this point. I’m assuming the remainder of MP owners with an XDR are having butter smooth logins with not a flicker. Should then the machine be returned?

I have experienced this before, using my Mac Pro 2013 with D500. I'd sent it to Apple Care for 4 times and no one can give me a proper answer even Apple Engineering Team cannot provide an answer to explain the situation. The flicking issue only appeared in login screen and then black out. I have ruled out all software issue - as I have tried resetting PRAM, clean install, no Intel Power Gadget, Create new account and take out all legacy software and plugin and connect my monitor to my MacBook Air. All I can say the issue came from Mac Pro 2013 itself. you can try this - 'when your screen black out, try to press the power button for 1 sec. if the screen remains black try to press the second time, 1 sec as well'. then, my case is: after that, everything is back to be normal !

Finally got in touch with a Mac Pro specialist who said engineering confirmed this is a known issue among multiple configurations that should be addressed in a future firmware update for the XDR display.

hi guys. think i have the same problem and stumbled across this thread. recorded a video of the problem on my setup (w5700x, xdr). please see link below. is this what happened to you?

Wow ~
That really looks bad. I can say in all XDR time, that has never happened on startup.

you can try to clean install first - 10.15.6 . another user said it will solve the issue in the last OS update. if not, probably contact Apple then.

but one more thing, can you enter your password and see whether the issue will occur when your OS logged in ?

the video showed the process after entering the password. when the os is fully loaded, the screen is fine. no issue at any time (e.g. during use, entering sleep, exiting sleep).
