Hello folks,

I have installed iOS 13 on my iPhone XS Max, but how do i delete old contacts and numbers that I have messaged in the past? I've noticed that if you go to the create a text message button, and then you type in the @ symbol, all these old numbers and contacts names that I don't even have on my contacts any longer pop up, and I have no option to delete them, does anyone have a solution on how to delete these old no longer existing numbers and names? Try it yourself and please let me know if you are experiencing this.

Thanks,

I really hope they can fix this soon, its annoying, I thought with 13.1 it was going to get fixed, but it still remains the same

Have you tried to delete the thread that has the contact number ?

I was hoping this issue would have been solved with 13.1.1, I called Apple tech support and they don't seem to know what is causing it.

Not fixed in 13.1.2
Please report this to Apple support. Don’t just post here. It won’t get fixed if we don’t report it.

I've just updated my 7plus to the latest ios 13.
When i open imessage and hit the start a new message button, the first letter i type will bring back OLD group messages ive had, and deleted LONG ago.

Some of these people i have deleted from my contacts completely, but there they are, name and phone number.

Before you used to be able to swipe and delete that group contact if it came up.

For example:

Hit new message / type "S" to find Steve / you see the contacts with S / Steve comes up, but old group message contacts come up, such as "steve, donna, mike and rob" that you can click on and begin a new group message.
But you used to be able to swipe and delete that and it would be gone.

Now, you cant do it. Is it a bug, or is there a different way to do it?

I deleted these people because i dont want to talk to them anymore, now theyre making a comeback??

Just tried it on my 11 Pro Max with 13.2. Works as before. Guessing YMWV

I would be interested in learning why you have the option to “Remove From Recents” while I don’t see that option on my iPhone XR.

Wish I could tell you. Saw the thread and figured I’d deliberately try it. Just played some more and deleted two of my contacts that I had texted to in the past. Typed their first letter in the to: field and neither even showed up as an option. Still at a loss for why. 🤔

Ah, I see now.. thank you for the way you worded your reply. I just figured out how to fix this problem:

1. Go into Messages
2. Create a new Message and begin typing a phone number
3. As numbers begin popping up from previous messages, tap the circled “i” and you can now remove from recents*

* It seems you cannot remove from recents when a number is contained within a group. But, you can easily remove a stand alone number.
