Help on buying a new (Used) Mac

I currently have a Mid 2007 Macbook (2,1) that is REALY showing it's age, and I recently made about 500$, so I am looking to upgrade. I've been browsing Ebay and can't decide which mac to buy, I don't really have a preference as to it either being a desktop or a laptop. Can someone please guide me in the right direction, Thanks

What screen size you prefer? I'd say the 2012 MBP "13 is a great laptop to buy used. You can still upgrade both ram/ssd and you have TB/USB3. On the swedish 2nd hand market you can get that one for aprox 550. If you can manage without USB3 go for the 2011 version of the same configuration its way cheaper just because the lack of USB3.
