Hi there i have a nikon d80 with a 18-135 kit lens its been great but i have found my self in situations were there is low light.

I have decided to opt for another lens i was looking at the 50mm F/1.4D Af Nikkor Lens.

I have read lots of mixed reviews on the lens mostly good.

I wonder if other members have found this prime lens to be sufficient when shooting in low light and how good the depth of field is.

Or if there is another lens i should be considering?

Thank you for any help, its much appreciated.

I (and roughly a billion others) love my 50mm f/1.8 for low light. The 1.4 is good too, or so I hear.

I have the tamron 17-50mm 2.8 and the nikon 50mm 1.8 and I love both of them. My favorite is the 50mm though. I had though about getting the 1.4 but after reading around about some of the problems people had been having with the 1.4 I saved some money and went with the 1.8 and I have no regreats at all. Also from what I have read the 1.8 is sharper than the 1.4 from about 2.8 on.

The next lens I am looking at is the nikon 85mm 1.8 I hear its a really great lens for portraits.

Have to agree with the above posters re: the 50mm 1.8. Has to be the best value lens in Nikon's range and works great on my D80.

Nikon released a 35mm 1.8 DX lens and I have heard good this about it. It is $199 but it is hard to find since it sells out fast.
