Hi All,

Although this is the first post on this account, I have been a member for many years... I can't remember my old login details!

So my reason for posting:

I had a 2009 Macbook Pro about 6 months ago (I purchased way back in 2009). So I have been without a machine for a while. I have been contemplating a purchase of the current range apple machines. However I don't know if (seeing as I have waited this long), should I get a Macbook Air, Macbook or the Macbook Pro?

My use would be for "fun" little bit of design work on Photoshop, some star craft (gaming), some x-code (just messing about with some apps) and general home use. Would a Macbook do the trick, would I be better off waiting for the new Macbook Pro's later this year? I'm in a catch 22 I believe as I'm not sure what to get and don't really want to splash out all that much cash for the Pro if I will be able to use another machine in it's place for a cheaper price.

Any thoughts?

Thanks inadvance

Everybody's opinion is different, but here goes:

In my mind, the only reason to get a MacBook is (1) you want a different color, or (2) you're going to be docking it frequently and want to use only one cable to do it. I can't find a single other redeeming reason to buy one.

In my mind, the only reason to get a MacBook Air would be (1) the extra few ounces of weight of a MBP is a dealbreaker for you, or (2) the extra few hundred bucks' cost of a MBP is a dealbreaker for you.

Go for a refurbished pro just for the graphics you want to do some gaming and graphics is the answer for that. Although Starcraft should run fine on them all.

You could wait for skylake the graphics boost on the 13 inch pro could be significant and it may be out in the next few weeks.

Thanks guys.

Think what I will do is, wait till the 21st (apparently there's an Apple event) see if anything is said on the new MacBook Pro's or others and then buy.

For photoshop and gaming, a Macbook Pro is the only real choice. The decision is which size, and can you wait this month for the new models to be announced ? If you want a cheaper MBP, wait until the current ones are replaced, then grab a discounted MBP.
