Is there a way to get pictures from a macbook or hard drive to imac WITHOUT plugging it into the imac? It is a chore to get to the back of my imac is there a wireless way to get pictures or files. Thanks

If both Macs are on the same wireless network (you can even use one of the Macs to create one if you do not have any wireless network at your disposal), you use file sharing.
Once both Macs are connected to the same network and file sharing is enabled on the Mac you want to get data from or to, that Mac appears in Finder in the Sidebar on the left and clicking on it and selecting CONNECT AS on the top right and using the Mac's account details (the Mac you connect to, not the Mac you connect from), you can then browser to the folder the pictures are in or are supposed to go.

Or if they are already on the same wifi network you could try opening AirDrop on both (Go>AirDrop). Basically drop 'em on one and they show on the other.
