I have a Mac Mini 2,1. It's running 10.6.8 and I think that's as high as it can go. I'm currently using it basically as a glorified NAS with hard drives plugged in serving content to Infuse on Apple TV and iPad. It works incredibly well. However I've recently bought a DAC and I want to use it to serve FLAC files to a stereo receiver.

So what I need is a program that can play FLAC files easily and let me use an iPhone or iPad as remote. I'm running iTunes 11.4 and have tried to install Fluke but couldn't get it to work. All the likely candidates seem to be 64 bit. The interface is not overly important to me.

Does anyone have any software suggestions?

(edit) tried plex but the iOS app won't work with the old version of the server I had running.

Your Macmini2,1 can be upgraded to Lion (OS X 10.7.5)
Not sure if that will help your situation with FLAC files, or not.
Maybe someone else with more information will respond here.

Have a look at VLC. I think it can act as a streamer.

Logitech Media Server is also freeware and can serve up streams in many many ways including some that your receiver might be able to. You’ll have no problem finding apps for iPad or iPhone that can control it or even be playback source - I recommend IPeng app.

There are a variety of FLAC players out there, it's just a question of which one operates with your OS. Vox, VLC work with El Capitan and Sierra, but if you're using an older operating system, you may have to look around for compatible versions. I believe that VLC and VOX are the most highly recommended, VLC because it plays all different sorts of media, while VOX plays music and has a fairly decent interface, not as busy as iTunes.

depending on your receiver if it has DLNA that might be an option, not sure if that's what plex uses or not. I used to use a program called Serviio and that worked pretty good.
