I have an iPad (1) 3G. I've never used (or activated) 3G but will likely do so in the next week or so, and I'm confused on some stuff. 1) Do I have to use AT&T or am I apple to use Verizon? 2) If I can use Verizon, do I need a new Micro-Sim card? 3) Is the account set up thru the iPad? Do I need to go to a store or website? 4) I'm mainly looking at this for google maps app. (I'm doing a road trip). How much data does maps need? Would the 250mb plan work ok? Thanks for any help.
you have to use whatever carrier your iPad is tied to. do you know if it's ATT or Verizon? you can set up the account on the iPad. you only need a credit card. 250MB should be sufficient if you're only going to use maps.
It's AT&T...was gotten before Verizon showed up. I thought you could get different MicroSim cards to do...something..change carrier or something?
If you're traveling in an area where other providers offer GSM 3G service (e.g. Mexico, Canada, Europe) then you can get a local MicroSim and pop it into the iPad. In the US, only AT&T offers 3G GSM data for the iPad. Verizon uses CDMA which is not SIM-based.
