Help Please? Iphone 3GS

So I tried to unlock my 3GS with redsnow9.6 and followed the instructions here

I believe I have the new version of the 3GS

Cydia had a blank screen so I tried to do a full restore in itunes and ended up with the "connect to itunes screen" and error 1015

Help is much appreciated

After you did the jaibreak, you should have then booted up tethered in redsn0w.

The new version of redsn0w is tethered, meaning you need to run redsn0w if your iPhone needs to be rebooted, turn it off/on, or if the battery dies.

I tried that, and it just goes to the pineapple screen and then back to the "connect to itunes screen"

They've probably figured something out (or likely simply moved on already) after what is now almost 5 years later.
