I am purchasing my first Mac, a MacBook Pro. Can someone help me with what software I should purchase? Will the monitor I am using now with a pc work with the mac? Is Glossy or regular screen best? I need any info anyone can provide in making this very expensive purchase, well for me it is very expensive.

Thanks for reading this post.;)

It's hard to suggest specific apps without knowing anything about what you plan to do with the machine. But you might want to have a look at our Mac Beginner's Guide for some suggestions.

The MBP has DVI connectivity for an external monitor, and can also output to VGA with an included adapter. So chances are your PC monitor will work just fine with it.

Glossy or matte screen is a personal preference. It's best if you can get to an Apple store to try them out in person. In general, glossy provides better contrast, but is subject to glare when working in bright conditions.

thanks

Thanks for the reply. I use computer mostly for photography and to build web pages.

Depending on your use, you might find iweb and iphoto fine for your needs.

All the i-life apps are pretty good for the non pro user.
