This might be very simple but I inserted a Netgear Wireless Router setup disc and it wont load. In the finder clicking on the other device there is a setup file but it says "There is no application set to open the document" The router was already set on my old computer, the internet works but I need to make my Macbook the new "administrator" and set a new password. What application do I need to use? Do I even need to insert the disc to perform these operations?
Thank you- new Mac user

Is the installer on the disk OS X compatible?

There's no reason to install any of the software that comes with routers. The OS provides everything you need.

Hardwire your MBP to the router and enter the router address in the URL field in safari (or what ever browser you use). The router address should be listed in any of the information provided with your router. I don't know the typical NetGear one off the top of my head, but for Linksys routers it's 192.168.1.1

A login box should come up, normally the default username is left blank and the password is 'admin', without the quotes. This should also be provided in the information you got with the router.

That'll get you into the routers web interface and you can make changes to just about anything. Also note, your computer itself will not be the router 'administrator'. There's simply an admin account that can be accessed from any computer.
