Hi everyone,

I have a relatively new Macbook air. I've just switched from PC so I'm new to all this and as a result, there's hardly any files / photos / videos on my laptop.

However, when I use word for mac, after a while, the arrow of the mouse just freezes and I can't move it. It stays like that for about 10 seconds at a time, sometimes longer, it's extremely annoying when you are trying to type. I've noticed it does that too sometimes on the internet but less often. It's really driving me crazy. Is there anything I can do? Should I report it to Applecare?

Best,
JULIEN

My 2 cents

Don't worry..I got the same problem with Microsoft Word (mainly) and Safari (sometimes) when I purphased my Air in March. This "new air syndrome", however, has gone after I have done a certain things to the settings.

(Before doing any steps below, run the apple hardware test first to see if there is anything to do with hardware failure)

First, I reinstalled the OS but it didn't seem to help. Second, I bought coolbook and lowered the voltage of the CPU. The problem has disappeared since then. Third, I installed smcfancontrol but I don't think it has anything to do with it.

My conclusion is the default voltage setting in some airs might cause the trackpad to be overly sensitive, and makes the mouse cursor vibrate or freeze in the screen. Of course, the problem would probably be not related to any of the things I have mentioned above and would just disappear after the Air has run for a certain amount of time.

Apple Genius wouldn't understand your situation. They will just ask you to do irrelevant reboots.

Hope this helps.
