I had an app I used all the time, today it stopped working so I deleted it to reinstall it. Just found out its no longer available in the app store (since Aug 2015). Anyone have any ideas? It's the Sirius Skydock app to listen to SiriusXM on my ipod in the car. It has channels their streaming app does not have.

If you sync apps with iTunes, then this might be in your Music/Mobile Applications directory (or in your backups).

nb: Apple appears to have had a temporary certificate glitch this week which has caused some app failures.

Do you back up purchases to your computer? It may be there and you may be able to get it back if you re-sync.

I tried the computer backup and it did not work. The app shows in itunes, but it's a blank picture and the file could not be found.

The standard location for app files is ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications.

There are no redundant duplicates in a device's backup, on either iCloud or locally via iTunes.

Situations like this illustrate why it's a good idea to back up apps to iTunes' library, and to have secondary back ups of the essential apps in that folder.

Apple has made that more difficult by disabling most of the app transfers between devices and iTunes 12 (due to App Slicing) and forcing users to rely on automatic downloads from the cloud to keep up to date, but they are of no help if an app is pulled from the Store, or a new version turns out to be less desirable.

Some users boast of never having connected their devices to iTunes, but there are many good reasons to do so.

won't it just be in the purchased section of the app store?

I do not think that is a sure thing (try as I might, I cannot find "Cat Piano Jr" from 2010 in my Purchases. :)

I found an old iPod with the app on it, backed it up to iTunes. then tried to use the same backup on my car ipod put on every app except for the one I want. It seems I cannot backup apps no longer available in the app store.
