help ref sharing documents/music with other user accounts

hi i want my wife to be able to listen to the songs we have on my computer - none of which was purchased through itunes and are just mp3 files in a folder called 'my music'.

also i want to share text/excel documents with her and pictures.

i went to system preferences and on the sharing option i chose file sharing on and allowed my wife to read and write the folders that the stuff is stored in.
then in further options i chose share files and folders using afp. i dont know what this is but both our names were listed so i ticked them.

basically it doesnt seem to have worked i logged on as her and could only see her own stuff.

can someone please advise thank you!

If you want to share files between users on the same computer, put them in the /Users/Shared folder.

sorry very new to mac - where is this folder? and can i create separate ones for music, pics etc? thanks

Macintosh HD>Users>Shared.

And yes you can created additional folders inside the shared folder.

FYI, the File Sharing prefs you were trying to set is for sharing over a network to another computer.
