help removing all contacts

I am trying to remove all contacts to troublshoot my iphone. I am having reception problems with my new 3gs i bought today. I have tried everything i can think of and am trying to remove everything from iphone to see if anything changes. I have removed music and apps but can't get contacts removed. I have searched and all I have found is unchecking sync contacts and reset sync history, and neither have worked for me. Any help would be appreciated.

Go into settings>general>reset> and it should be in there. You can erase all content and settings. Or do a restore in itunes.
