My trusty 6s with 16g storage just bit the bullet. Cameras don't matter to me--refurbished X is $599, a new XR is also $599, or an 8 is $449.

I know the SE is coming, but if it isn't dropped, like, tomorrow, I can't really wait.

Suggestions? Thanks all

As you didn’t mention what you use it for it’s getting tricky to recommend anything.

As you’re mentioning the SE maybe cost is of importance to you- in that case get the cheapest phone you can find.

I use it for a handful of boring, non-intensive things, like reading the news, texting, etc. No photo needs, no video needs. Very vanilla and boring.

Cost is somewhat important, but I'd rather spend a little more on the front end if a certain model is better constructed, future-proofed, something like that. For instance, is the additional $50 between an XR and an 8 a worthwhile investment?

Out of those options I’d pick the X to be honest. X-r is a great choice too, I just say X because the display is noticably better and that’s important to me

The 8 (and X) is a generation older than the XR. XR has a bit larger display than the other 2, resolution is the same as the 8 I think (more or less).

This gives you the most recent CPU out of the bunch you mentioned, a big screen and according to many a pretty long battery life, in a new device with a year warranty. This would probably be my pick.

Buy the 8 from Apple and buy the new device this week, then return the 8 within 14 days.

this is the smartest
I agree w it

otherwise the X or XR is a good value device. For your stated uses, the A11 and A12 are a toss up,

so I’d go with the X cause it’s got the XS/11 Pro build quality and OLED display plus its easier to hold in one hand and lighter than the XR.

But honestly this ^ post is the smartest idea. Get the 8, and exchange it for the new SE when it’s revealed in a few weeks

I'd say XR out of those. It's also the best size imo. The 8 is starting to look dated with the larger bezels and the 9/SE dropping soon is pretty small although you might not mind coming from a 6s.

From those options, I'll get either the 8 if you don't like larger phones, or the XR if you can tolerate the larger size.

I wouldn't get the X at this point unless you really must have OLED screen on a budget.

If you can stretch your budget, the 11 is a much better investment imo. But I understand sometimes that is not possible.

I'd go with the XR you're guaranteed another 4-5 years of software updates.

With the x being 3 years old you'll most likely get 2 more years of software updates.

XR over the X definitely - it has more Ram and a better processor than the X = longer iOS support. Ideally though the new SE will be a better bet than the XR.

If you don’t care about OLED and 3D Touch, I would go for the Xʀ. Battery life is much improved over the iPhone X. I personally like OLED because of the true blacks and display overall but the Liquid Retina display is still phenomenal.
