Hi, Got a slight issue, when doing a screen capture it no longer produces the image on my desktop, it makes the sound like it's grabbed the image but i can't find it anywhere, any idea's guys

Sometimes the desktop won't refresh, try going through Finder to /Users/YourUsername/Desktop and see if it's there.

...oh, and give your threads a useful title

Are you holding CONTROL at the same time? If this is the case, the screenshot will skip your Desktop and head straight to your Clipboard, ready to be pasted somewhere. You can view your Clipboard contents from the Edit menu. :)

Apple Shift 4 gives you the ability to specify the area of the screen shot. Do a spotlight for "picture". I think edesignuk is on to it, your Desktop may not be refreshing correctly.

ok guys i reckon a few of you are on the scent, the desktop not refreshing sounds logical, how do i get it to refresh? in simple terms please

ok these are the key combo's i tried

1. Command-Shift-3
2. Command-Shift-4
3. Command-Shift-4 then spacebar

Ive had a very long day and am now tired, it worked ok yesterday and i do appreciate the suggestions guys, where would i find the images if they were stored elsewhere  .

Assuming you know how to take a screenshot - try to delete/move/rename ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screencapture.plist and restart.
To explain a little further...

Open up Finder, go in to Users > Your User Name > Library > Preferences and delete the file kingjr3 says, then reboot.

Did you try edesignuk's suggestion?
Did you? Have you gone and looked at your desktop through the Finder as I said above?

They proberly just don't show up @ your desktop (i have this problem too sometimes). Try to find them using a Finder window browsing to your Desktop.

sorry it's taken so long to try things out, trying to look after a 2 year old thats into everything, firstly thanks to all you guys ;)
especially kingjr3, tried deleteing the file you said, worked a treat, all back to normal now i can get some work done, thank you very much :)

it's guys like you lot that makes me realise i did the right thing changing to a mac :p

Hi guys, I have this exact same problem and this is the answer I've seen on numerous different forums. However, when I go to my Finder/Users/My Name there is no Library at all, let alone any Preferences or files I can delete. Can anyone help?

hmm... 10-year-old thread :)

The user Library folder is hidden by default.
So - in the Finder, hold your Option key while viewing the Go menu.
You will see Library appear. Click on that Library - that's the correct Library, and the Preferences folder that you seek.

Oh wow, yeah! I didn't even check the date!

Thanks for that - I've found the right folder now, but can't see com.apple.screencapture.plist in there.

Also, I've just done a screen shot again and it did appear on the desktop this time so I'm not sure if it's a permanent problem.

However, I am finding a lot of stuff (i.e. not just screen shots) doesn't appear on the desktop now. For example, when I try to save an email as a Rich Text Format file to my desktop, it goes elsewhere and I can only find it using the search function.

Is it to do with the introduction of the iCloud desktop in my last software update?
