Help required with getting an app

I recently downloaded an app form the app store. The app cost $4.99. It didn't give me a chance to use my iTunes gift card and it has taken $1.00 from my bank account instead, even though the app costs $4.99.
- Will an extra $3.99 be taken from my account in time?
- How do I download an app using my iTunes gift card and for no money to be taken from my bank account?

Just use iTunes gift cards for all your purchases. Also you can take your credit card off the account.

Thanks for the reply - If my bank account details weren't attached to the app store, would it of automatically asked for my iTunes number rather than just taken money from my bank account?
Also, is it easy to remove my bank account details? Thanks a lot

I just use iTunes gift cards, they're often on sale too. I have no credit card attached to my iTunes account.
