The "other" problem with that MBPro6,1 is that it came with a special build of Snow Leopard. If you try the commercial Snow Leopard that you can buy from the Apple web store, you will find that you can't boot the MacBookPro, even though the Snow Leopard version appears correct. The hardware is just enough different that you can only boot to the installer DVD that came with that MBPro originally. Apple never updated the standard installer for Snow Leopard to include those in-between models.
There's work-arounds, of course, but it's one area that makes it much simpler to just move on to newer OS X versions, particularly if you no longer have that original installer DVD.

How would I go about doing this? I just downloaded update combo 10.6.6 because it seems she deleted the App Store. But it froze with a minute left.

Sort of pointless to download the 10.6.6 combo updater. Most current is 10.6.8 combo, which would provide all the system updates from 10.6.1 to 10.6.8 - which would also include the App Store. You can get that combo updater here.

Wouldn't let me download the combo, so I had to do each individually. I just upgraded to el captain, so far so good. But still trying to figure out how to make it mine. I figured out her password and changed the name but it's still appearing in certain places. Hopefully the upgrade fixed whatever was wrong with it

Easiest way to change the account name (and there really isn't an easy, safe way to change an account name, unless you want to spend a fair amount of time in the terminal :D ) is to add a new admin account (through the Users & Groups pane.) You can name that whatever you like, and put in a nice password while you are doing that.
Log out of the old user. Log in as the new user. Everything will be at defaults.
Keep the old account, until you decide that there's nothing in that account that you need to keep, when you can delete that user.

Since I have upgraded to el captain, I can command + R now, I couldn't do that before. If I revert it to original, will it wipe the computer clean now? Or will it just stay the same since it was already all on there when I downloaded it?

No, you could not do Command + R before (with Snow Leopard) as that feature did not exist until Lion (10.7) and later.

Do you still want to go back to Snow Leopard? You still need a working installer to get there.
And, you can't use the Command + R to wipe then reinstall Snow Leopard. The recovery partition has no capability to do that - that will allow you to reinstall El Capitan, and that's it.
You could also try the internet recovery feature (restart, holding Opt-Command-R. You will see a rotating globe, which indicates that you are connecting to Apple's servers.) Internet Recovery takes longer to boot, because you are actually booting from Apple's servers. It looks similar to your internal recovery system, but the reinstall that you are offered is for Lion (probably).
Isn't this great fun? :D

No, I don't want snow leopard. I was just wondering if wiping it would work now that I had the option. It seems to be working! Just waiting for it to finish now. Hoping to have a clean slate

Sure. You can use Disk Utility, while you are booted to Command + R. You can erase your boot partition using Disk Utility, Quit Disk Utility, then choose to reinstall OS X. That will give you a completely clean install of El Cap, if that's what you want to do.

Yep, that's exactly what I was going for. Took me all day to get it going! Thanks for all of your help!

make sure in lightrooom / photoshop settings you adjust how much ram the app can use. this is mostly for 3d and rendering and such, but still. Make sure you settings look something like this. View attachment 603010
Make sure the the 'use graphics card' box is checked.

in the last image you can see that i set the ram to about 5 gigs.

Just got everything set up, how would I go about doing this in Lightroom?
