    9to5mac is the only site I've noticed this occurring, but just recently it seems that Safari 7.0 (10.9) does not display the embedded PNG images that are in their stories.

    If I click on the image, Safari displays the PNG image by itself. I've tried restarting the browser. I tried turning off extensions (ghostery, clicktoflash). I've tried to repeatedly to refresh the page. Other images display fine in Safari and the PNGs display fine in Firefox (25).

    Any ideas?

    Their images are set to lazy load, and it is not setup properly at the moment. The HTML is set to load a 1x1 pixel image (very small), and JavaScript takes care of the load as the image comes into view.

    Code:
    <img title="Apple confirms Black Friday event, online and in retail stores" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-298874" alt="blackfriday"
    src="[B]http://s0.wp.com/wp-content/themes/vip/plugins/lazy-load/images/1x1.trans.gif?m=1322061781g[/B]"
    data-lazy-src="[B]http://9to5mac.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/blackfriday.png?w=704&h=339[/B]" width="704" height="339" scale="0">
    So it is loading the 1x1 pixel, which is supposed to be swapped out for the value in data-lazy-src by some script they have, which is not firing. Which is why you see a blank spot. Maybe some kind of WebKit incompatibility in a recent update?

    Hopefully they're fixing it. This is probably the problem, or at least what makes sense to me.

    Cool. Thanks for the knowledgable explanation. This saves me from foolhardily trying to fix it on my end.
