It's Fixed!!!

when i used a different (non-generic, made by sandisk) SD card reader, everything works!! yay!!

lesson learned: don't use a free/generic card reader. spend the $10 and get a decent one.

I'm had this same problem plugging my SanDisk 1GB SD card into my MacBook pro's built in SD card reader. It had always worked up until today. The only thing I can think of is that I used the card in another camera and that may have messed it up. but I couldn't access it at all. I reformatted it on the camera (pentax) and it still wan't working. I plugged the camera in with a cable and it worked after that. Now when i plug the card directly into the MacBook Pro it works fine.:confused: I don't know how this fixed it but it did.

I think the permission you get on a card depends on how you connect it to your Mac. I just purchased a 2GB PNY SD card and tried connecting it through my Cannon printer. The card was recognized right away but I got read only permission. I then inserted the same card to my Garmin Nuvi and right away I got read and write permission.

So my lesson is try using a different device to connect to your card.

A little late, but..

I had the exact same problem as the original poster, and needed a quick fix. Scanned this forum and couldn't find anything, and just decided to play around with it myself. I had my SD card unlocked and everything, and just decided to move the switch halfway between the two, and bingo. It worked.

Created my account just to share my success, womp womp

I had the same problem with an SD card formatted in a Canon 650D. Solved the problem by taking a few random photos then formatting (in the camera) but selecting the low level format option, then able to read and write to card.

I too had the same problem as the o.p. I did what Beardslikechips suggested and it worked immediately.
