Help. Setting up gmail as sync and push

I have been trying to set up a push, sync e mail on my sons iPhone all day. I keep getting the message that the password is incorrect and I know it is not correct. I called the apple iPhone support number and they do not offer support on google mail. They suggested I make an. Appointment with the genius store to get set up help. I went to apple and they tell me that the above instruction are only if you have an exchange server. Is this right? I thought it was using googles exchange server.

Is there a google support number?

I want to sync mail, iCal and contacts.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I had this problem and 1 field where you put your name, it was the gmail name or something like that. I kept putting my 1st and last name and I finally put my gmail name and it fixed it and that was all that was wrong.

Could you post your screen shot? Would really appreciate it. I have been at this the better part of the day and still stuck. You don't have an exchange server right?

Odd, I've successfully followed these instructions for both my ipad and ipod.

Try unlocking the Google Captcha with the account info from the phone, then try the email again.

Of course not. Apple can't help you with a Google password issue.

Gmail doesn't use an Exchange server. Exchange is an MS mail server. Google uses its own mail servers.

No, they're not right. That approach is for any account that offers ActiveSync support (Exchange, gmail, Hotmail, Live, etc).
