Help: Sony DCR-HC35 not recognised!

Hi all, hope someone can help with my attempts at getting my MB C2D to recognise my Sony DCR-HC35 mini DV camcorder. It's connected to my MB via Firewire, i've set the camc. to play/edit mode, set the date, jumped through all the hoops, and it's still not working. Some say their DCR-HC53 works fine with their Mac, but mine won't, please help.
Thanks in advance for any help.
