It's October 14th, 1:20 PM local, and I still cannot update to iOS 5. I have updated my iTunes to the latest version, and when I connect my iPhone, I see the update (iOS 5), shows as available. I click "download and install", and I see a screen for approximately 30 seconds that says, "Connecting the iPhone software update server", and shows a status bar.

After approx. 30 seconds, I see another pop-up that says, "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "James Smith's iPhone" The network connection could not be established."

I have tried literally dozens of times, have restarted my computer multiple times, and no luck. Is Apple still having server issues? Any ideas? And by the way, I do not see a numerical error message number displayed.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

problem with ios 5 update- connection to server cannot be established

    Hi,
I'm having exactly the same problem.
Message when trying to update the iphone:

"There was a problem downloading the software for iphone AB. A network connection cannot be established"

I have the iphone 3, version 4.3.5, and have tried everything that the troubleshooting section on apple's website advised. I updated itunes, restarted the computer, checked my security settings, and verified that no other usb devices are plugged in.
I know there was talk about servers being busy, but now it is October 18th (9:30 pm my time), and I'm still having this problem. I really don't have time to take it to the at&t or the apple store... have you (or anyone else out there) found anything that has worked for you, or found the source of the problem?
Please let me know, I appreciate all the help!
