I was trying to install some UNIX programs, specifically GNOME under X11. Whatever I did, I must have changed a file somewhere because my computer only starts up with the bash (i think) shell. How do I get it to boot back in OS X GUI? Thanks!

Try holding down the "X" key when you turn on your Mac. This forces the computer to start up in OS X
