Im trying just that, i connected th iPod T via USB open itunes then open independence & the other way. And still have this message: Failure

Error registering for callbacks from iPhone I click OKd and start again and nothing.

Im ready to donate this iPod touch to WillItBlends.

Relax, friend. I had your exact same issue.

Plug your iPod into your computer. Let iTunes recognize it. Give it a few seconds.

Press and hold the home and power keys until the iPod disappears from the Devices list. The second it does, release the power button and continue to hold down the home button. You shouldn't see the screen turn on. iTunes will recognize it again, and say it's in restore mode.

Then, hold down option and click Restore, select 1.1.1 firmware, and restore.

It might take a few tries. Don't worry, it will work.

Thanks.. I really try that like 25 times and it give me the same result: "The "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604)".

I got 2 firmwares:

1. iPod1,1_1.1.1_3A110a_Restore.ipsw

2. iPod1,1_1.1.1_3A110a_Restore-1.ipsw

(What of those is the right one?) I try both & gave me the same result: Error 1604.

Worked.

I had the same problem with my iPT after restoring to 1.1.3, then trying to downgrade to 1.1.1. This is why I indicated "I would suggest leaving your iPT hooked up to your pc/mac (this is a key step)," If you hold down the sleep/wake + home buttons without it hooked up to your pc/mac you will receive this error. If you have it hooked up to your pc/mac, and still receive the error...unfortunately I don't have an answer for you

thank xinfinity. your way seemed to work... thanks...

i have a 16gb ipod touch that i had running on 1.1.4
i managed to downgrade to 1.1.3 but i cant get it to go to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2
i always get the error Ipod cannot be restored. unknown error occurred (1)
help?!
and ive also tried doing it on multiple computers

Did you guys try on a pc that has iTunes 7.5?
I personally dong have a pc but parallel desktop works great on my macbook pro

If not try restoring it normally? As in don't select the 1.1.1 firmware, let it just restore, then restart computer and put itouch on recovery mode then try
that's how I did my itouch(16gb)

If that doesn't work then I don't know that much that can help.

Just for reference, this had happened to me as well. I read somewhere on the Internet that changing usb ports might help, and surprisingly, that fixed it.

For me it was the Cable

After a few fits resetting and attempting to restore my iPod (and iPhone) I tried switching the cable. I hadn't see in listed anywhere in threads but it fixed my problem.

Other symptoms I had were iTunes not recognizing the device. Seems strange an Apple cable would go bad but the worst thing was everywhere I looked, including the Apple site, never mentioned it as a possible cause. I thought for certain I'd bricked my iPod and my phone. It's working great again.
