Organ donor here.
I think this is the single most useful thread among the plethora that came in since yesterday. Thank you.
Not registered, but my relatives have the instruction to use as much of my body as possible if anything were to happen. I think I'll fill the paperwork to make it official one of these days, although that's optional here, it's better to have it.
I've been an organ donor for several years.
Registered organ donor since 1990.
Donation should be the default
The U.S. should mirror the E.U. and adopt an "opt-out" rather than our current "opt-in" system.
Countries where organ donation is the default experience up to 90% participation.
We have it on all sorts of official forms in the UK to try and encourage people to join. They got me when I applied for my driving license -- http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG_198724
I'm a full body donor to a med school. Maybe some doc-to-be will cut me up in the process of training - and help cure pancreatic cancer during his/her career.
Will donate corneas - the only organ you are permitted to donate if you are a full body donor.
Another thing I'm doing to help the next Steve Jobs is constantly pouring money into the economy so that there will be a market.
Seriously though I'm just trying to justify the chicken sandwich I bought for lunch today...lol
