Help Unlock iphone...I think I screwed up!

Bought someone's two month old iphone, threw out SIM from ATT, reset phone....I didn't know!!! Now all it says is emergency calls only. I paid to unlock it at jailbreak my iphone.com but I can't even start because when i try to use itunes, it wants the SIM. I have a SIM (from the Bahamas) but not the ATT original. Furthermore, I don't even know what firmware my 3G is using because the only way i know how to check is blocked by emergency calls! Soooo confused and need help!:mad:
 
this is not helping...I thought it would help me with the issues I was having (emergency calls only) and don't know what firmware in order to unlock...or do i need to reinstall firmware to unlock...and if i reinstall firmware, how will i be sure i don't install the one that makes it impossible to unlock??? HELP!
 
Calm down! Just restore the firmware to 3.1.3 in iTunes (don't bother with iOS4 for the 3G) and then use Redsn0w to jailbreak and unlock it. Checkout iClarified for the tutorial to do this and to get the 3.1.3 firmware.

@ OP Your phone is fine. The Emergency call thing will happen because it doesn't have a SIM in it. Your phones not broken just put a SIM in it and it will work. However you must get it unlocked first otherwise it will not accept your Bahama SIM.
 
Plug the iPhone 3G to iTunes and update it to the latest 4.0.1 firmware.
Then use redsnow to jailbreak it and ultraslow from Cydia to unlock it.
And remember never to reset, restore or update it to official firmware or it will lock up again.

That's the problem. When I use itunes, it says the only SIM i have is not compatible because I threw away the old ATT SIM, now all I have is the bahama sim. What's next?
 
and....

and everything i am reading says that certain versions of the firmware make unlocking impossible...3.1.2??? Afraid to download the wrong one.

well I feel adequately chastized and punished by losing my $30.oo now will someone please tell me why when I dowload the update to 4.whatever....it stops almost at the end and still tells me i do not have a supported sim card (I thought this was supposed to avoid that problem) and by the way THIS is my attempt to do my homework...thanks.:(

OK, now thoroughly embarassed too :eek: reading through the article. I see part of my problem is that the iclarified site has some ads covering some of the directions...trying to figure this out.

Every time I think I am getting somewhere....now I seem to be doing better, but when I download from the links on the iclarified page and then try to unzip the files, I get a message asking me if I want to copy the files without encryption??? Tried it and then I can't select the file, just keeps taking me to subfiles until there aren't any more, so doing it again and now getting same message. What do i do?

Are you trying to download the firmware ipsw file?
The redsnow program is a zip file so you will have to download and unzip it.
Hope you have winzip or winrar installed.
The firmware 4.0 restore file should end in .ipsw extension.
When you save it select save as type: all files
and change it to restore.ipsw
Not .zip
 
was jailbreaking and turned off the phone as instructed but when i was putting it into DFU mode the next screen popped up that it is waiting for reboot and it is stuck there...can't even turn phone on at all now. Now what? Or have I really done it this time?

Try holding both the power button and the home screen button. And stop freaking out. It'll only make things work.
 
Yep, thats why we all thought it was an iphone 3G.
So she search around the model number and came to the conclusion its a 3GS I guess.
Only option is to restore thru itunes and wait.
