Myself and a fellow macrumors member are doing a preliminary research on Apple/Mac virtual communities. We'd like to ask you as regular Macrumors visitors/posters to answer some simple questions about your membership of this community we have here!

1. What was your motivation in becoming a member of a apple/mac community? Doing some research prior to buying my PowerBook.

2. What is your motivation in remaining an active member of the apple/mac community? Timely information and humorous rumours, but mainly the community.

3. What Apple products do you own? iMac G4 15", PowerBook G4 15", 1G iPod Shuffle [512 and 1GB], 4G 60GB iPod, iSight, b/g Airport Extreme Base Station, Airport Express, wireless mouse, eMate 300, Mac SE/30, iMac G3.

4. Which Apple products are you most interested in when participating in this community? Pretty much everything.

5. Why did you choose to become a member of macrumors? Seemed like a friendly bunch of folks.

6. Do you consider yourself to be an active member? Yes, although not nearly as active as I used to be [darn RW].

7. Are you a member of any other virtual (online) apple/mac communities? I tried one or two other places, but nothing I found compelled me to either stay there or leave here.

I purchased (impulse) an iBook in 2003 and I wanted to learn about OS X.

2. What is your motivation in remaining an active member of the apple/mac community?

Nothing better to do when I'm bored at work I guess.

Currently; iMac G5, iMac Core 2 Duo, Mac mini Core Duo, iPod w/video 60 GB, iPod w/video 80 GB, iPod mini 4 GB.

4. Which Apple products are you most interested in when participating in this community?

The Apple Mac and Mac OS X.

5. Why did you choose to become a member of macrumors?

When I purchased my first Mac I found the site by accident and there was a lot of good information here.

6. Do you consider yourself to be an active member?

Not really

7. Are you a member of any other virtual (online) apple/mac communities?

Yes (#MacOSX on irc.freenode.net)

7. Are you a member of any other virtual (online) apple/mac communities? No, i tried, perhaps even joined, but didn't find enjoyment in them as i do here at MacRumors.

i wanted to stay on top of upcoming/speculated products.

i have answered a few questions and helped a few people, and that's satisfying to me.

iMac and iPod.

i lurked here for a long time before posting, and i really felt like there were some good people here.

i'm more active in the community aspect as opposed to the "rumors" aspect.

nope! it's macrumors only for me! :)

Fun, good support, helpful.

Don't remember -- it was almost four years ago.

something to do on the internet while I have free time

20" iMac C2D, 17" iMac C2D, MacMini CD, ipod photo 20GB, about a dozen apple stickers... (but i've owned a lot more than that)

there isn't anyone in particular

I was buying a 17" powerbook, and thought it would be nice if i could talk to people if i had any questions

not as much as some people here. I read a lot more then I write.

Gives me something to do at work, and I enjoy it

My uncle introduced me before I switched, and I found alot of help in switching on this forum.

It's something that isn't blocked (yet) at my school, I can learn from others, and I can help others with my knowledge.

Sometimes - I normally post in increments of 10 to 20 per day, once every month or two.

I got to know some of the members and decided I enjoyed my discussions with them.

Currently, a Cube, 22" ACD, MacBook, 24" iMac, AEBS, APE.

All of them.

5. Why did you choose to become a member of macrumors?
I found a better class of Mac addict here.

No, although I do visit ThinkSecret and AppleInsider from time to time, and I used to enjoy As The Apple Turns.

1. What was your motivation in becoming a member of a apple/mac community? I originally signed up to get some reassurance on a technical matter.

2. What is your motivation in remaining an active member of the apple/mac community? Because the people here are on the whole really nice sorts, and very friendly helpful towards each other – and not just on the techie stuff, either. It's a good community.

3. What Apple products do you own? A Dual 2GHz G5 Power Mac, a 23" Cinema Display (old school), a 1.83GHz MacBook, a 20GB 3G iPod, and a 2GB 2G iPod nano.

4. Which Apple products are you most interested in when participating in this community? To be honest, it's more the community aspect I come here to participate in rather than the Apple stuff.

5. Why did you choose to become a member of macrumors? As I mentioned in Q.1, I came here originally looking for some technical advice – this place seemed to have the right balance of expertise and friendliness.

6. Do you consider yourself to be an active member? I'd say so.

7. Are you a member of any other virtual (online) apple/mac communities? I do browse a few other Mac forums, but I don't belong to or post on any others besides MacRumors.

I really wanted a Mac and liked reading about them. I lurked around here for a while and eventually joined.

I like to help others with any problems they have with their Mac. Also, being able to ask for help and have a supportive response is great.

An iPod Photo 30GB, and an iMac Core 2 Duo 20".

Probably iMacs, as that is the one I own. I like reading or contributing to any category, though.

5. Why did you choose to become a member of macrumors?
This was, in my opinion, one of the best rumor/Apple sites I found, and saw how large and supportive the community was through my lurking.

Yes. I get on MR every day.
