hi, i'm trying to archive my dvds so that i can have great quality viewing on the imac screen as well as being compatible with the ipod. i'm used to encoding with xvid, but obviously that won't work on the ipod.

i'm using mediafork/handbrake for encoding,
is there anything similar to xvid quality that will work on the ipod or is xvid just a better format?

what settings are we all using?

by the way, i have read quite a lot on handbrake and ffmpegx. i'd just like to have some other feedback.

cheers! :)

just convert to MPEG4 (faster) or H.264, at the highest resolution your iPod will support.

iLounge has a series of articles on the subject which you may find useful, the first one which links to the others is the complete guide to video in iTunes.

This one is a bit outdated, but talks about video resolutions, the max resolutions are now 640x480 for both rather than 480x480 and 320x240 as mentioned on the page.
