Morning all,
As I'm sure most of you have, I'm now working from home with my trusty 2017 MBP 15" running Mojave 10.14.6 (work build) and picked up a lenovo l24-q30 IPS 24" QHD monitor to help. Unfortunately I'm not getting on very well with the scaling and fuzziness of the output to the monitor. I've set it to 2650x1440 @ 75hz, used usb-adapter-hdmi and usb-DP cable, but the outcome is the same. White on black text does not sharp and icons look a bit jagged round the edges too.

Can this be improved to resemble the retina screen on my laptop or is this the norm with QHD screens? Thanks!

Hi, MBP 13" 2017 with an external monitor too. Mine is rather a Dell and has been serving me well for a few months now.
But from the lots of reading I did before buying, you'll only get near-Retina resolution with 4K or 5K displays.

Do you see the same sort of issues as me? I sit arms length away from the screen and it seems okay but any closer and i can start to make out the pixels. I can pick up a 28" 4k monitor for another £90ish, but i don't know if its worth it?

I'm using 2 different 1440 Dell monitors (S2716DG, S2719DGF) and no, they are not retina goodness but I am happy overall with their appearance. They are connected by USBC to Displayport and USBC to HDMI cables.

Try 60hz refresh, and see if that makes a difference.

Be aware that ANY non-retina display isn't going to look quite as sharp as a retina display. Your eyes may have been spoiled by the retina screen!

Just wondering -- if you go to the displays pref pane and try some -other- resolutions, does it look any better? (probably not, but worth trying anyway)

Nope, no issue so far, whatever the distance.
As others have said, it's not Retina but I've been and am still satisfied with it.

I've taken a screenshot to try and illustrate what I see
