Hello All,

Few days back i had purchased a lightly used AT&T iphone 6s plus phone from a local guy on craigslist. The seller said the phone has been paid-off and can be unlocked to use on any carrier.
I checked the IMEI# & the status showed clean and hence i got it . I got it for very good price of $200.

I came home & put my T-mobile SIM card then got an SIM card error msh. On further investigation i found out that phone is locked to AT&T. I tried for unlock request on AT&T website then got a message that there are pending payments on this phone. The seller responded to me once saying that is not sure I will call AT&T and get in touch with you. He has not responded to me since last 2 days.

My questions.
1. What should i do now ?
2. Is there a way to unlock & use them on T-mobile ? Is it safe to use it this way ?
3. Will AT&T find it later and blacklist the iphone ?
4. Can i sell it off on craigslist for the same money ? If anyone uses this phone on AT&T will it continue to work normal with any issues?
5. I see there are many local craigslist ads for unlocking phones? Is this safe to use once i unlock it.

Pls let me know.

Thanks in advance.

You can't use the phone as long as it's locked. If the seller won't contact you, your SOL.. Hopefully the seller might contact you and give you an opportunity to return the phone for a refund or clear up the issue with AT&T. Unfortunately, you may of just learned a $200 lesson..

I’d explore this option, as long as it is not too expensive. It is safe; that is, no police will knock on your door one night. The worst that could happen was ATT blacklist the phone and it won’t connect even after the unlock.

OP, you have now found out why buying a phone off of craigslist for a really good price is not such a good thing.

Seller is not responding. Which means the payments that are owed are probably not going to get paid.

Sooner or later, yes, it will be blacklisted.

As @BugeyeSTI just stated, you learned a $200 lesson.

Try calling ATT and being really nice. Let them know your situation and ASK them what you can do about it. Let them lead about what can be done to unlock the phone. Tell them the person you bought from isn't contacting you, and you paid them money.

Be very nice, pathetic, but persistent. Keep trying to get the phone unlocked! Don't give up!
