    Hello everyone,

Right, I am first going to say, please give me instructions that you would give and idiot. I really don't understand all of this stuff, but want to be able to do it! haha

Basically want to have an apple tv (2) set up with a load of content.

Okay, I have an iMac that I want to run an external hard drive off that has a load of films and series on. First question, how would I move the iTunes library over to the external. Im planning on 1tb hard drive for now. And again, another question, What hard drive would you suggest? I want an all in one like a Western Digital, or seagate or something like that. Not really too keen on the idea of an enclosure with hard drives in it.

I know how to set this up to the apple tv so we are all good there. But I have used handbrake before, but not for apple tv. What really is the best quality to transfer DVD's too? I have read lots of answers, but nothing that really confirms anything.

I know that I could have searched for this info, but I did look, but was all a bit vague.

    Thanks for any help!!!

Moving your iTunes library to a new drive.

Automating the process of ripping DVD and BluRay content into iTunes.

(You didn't look very hard for this one as it's been stickied for years at the top of the AppleTV Forum. ;) )

This is the process I use and if you follow the directions, it's pretty much foolproof.

As for attaching this external to your ATV...that is beyond me. I just always keep iTunes open on my iMac. I have the computer sleep, but it is set to 'wake on wireless' activity if ATV needs files.

Of course this only works with Snow Leopard and Airport Extreme.

EDIT: I mis-read you post...you said nothing about an external. ...the wake-on-wireless is a good read nonetheless.

And I use a WD external attached to my iMac Mini and have had no issues.

The apple tv2 doesn't read a external attached to it unless it's jailbreaked. I think apple needs to upgrade the next update.

    thanks
