This is for my sisters macbook.. When at her place (using wireless internet) she cannot access hotmail. Other sites work fine, but hotmail will not load at all. I changed all of the security to let everything through, and that would not work. I checked to see if it was her macbook, but on my macbook pro, the only site that would not load was hotmail, This was in Safari 3, 4, and firefox.
When using a VPN on my macbook pro, I could connect to hotmail, but only if I was using the VPN.

Anyone have any idea's?

Well, last year when I bought my macbook in April, to access hotmail I had to delete the cookies after going to the website 2 or 3 times. Maybe try deleting the cookies for safari ? That's all I can think about.

Even deleting cookies does not help. Your can reset safari, and it will go to the physical hotmail page, but then will time out as it tries to log in.

Try open a terminal and type

Code:
ping -c 5 www.hotmail.com

I am guessing that you will get a 100% packet loss.

Now try and type

Code:
traceroute www.hotmail.com

And copy/paste the result and post it here.

Does it continually circulate in a loop of long addresses? Try not ticking the "remember my password" box.

traceroute www.hotmail.com

--- mail.live.com ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
jeff-ds-macbook-pro:~ j$ traceroute www.hotmail.com
traceroute: Warning: www.hotmail.com has multiple addresses; using (IP Address)
traceroute to mail.live.com (IP ADRESS HERE), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets

Also, when I do not check remember my password, it still cannot log in.

Ok. So your problem is that you can access the login page but not log in?

This might be totatly out of left field, but many many months ago, maybe a year now, HOTMAIL told me that I could no longer use SMTP programs to autodownload emails in OUtlook, outlook express and the like. I paid them like 40 bucks so that this could work for a year and then after that I couldn't get back into Hotmail at all. I had use the help page and reset the password to that account...I wonder if something on the computer, like a saved password or something is holding up your sister's Mac from reaching Hotmail...

I checked her Macbook when she was not using her own internet (parents house) and it worked fine. You can go to the log in page, only if it is the very 1st web page to be visited after you reset safari.

if anyone looks into this thread, it was a bad router that was not letting her to connect to MSN / hotmail... new router = problem fixed.

Same problem

I have the same problem on my PC, FireFox and Safari doesn't let me load Hotmail.

Picking up my MacBook tomorrow, fingers crossed it will be okay.

Hotmail access

Hi,

I hear hotmail new or renewed accounts are not accessible via Mac Os Mail.

THEY ARE if you open a new POP account, (not an HTTP account with the http plugin)

Incoming server must be: pop3.live.com
Outgoing: smtp.live.com

Thank got I just found this out! Especialy now that hotmail does not function with Safari Beta!

A) Hotmail does work in the new Safari Beta and
B) Thanks for that information. I can now receive hotmail through Mail 😀
