I got an older desktop mac for free from a family member, as in CRT screen older. It's running 10.1.5 and is a PowerPC G3 with 256MB. It was running fine until recently, when I started getting a error code 36 when trying to put some files in the Trash to get rid of them. Says the files cannot be read or written.

I also have NONE of the original software discs, so I cannot run the utility disc to "repair permissions" as I have seen in several google attempts at solving the issue.

Am I just stuck with an ever increasing amount of unwanted files until the computer becomes useless?

I am starting a new job in a few weeks, so I cannot "just buy a new computer". Believe me, that is the plan soon. I used to have a dual processor Imac with a 20 inch screen, so this is a HORRIBLE downgrade from what I was used to. Is there any help for this boat anchor?,,,,MG
