I use a chat app on my iPhone 4 iOS7 which has the ability to save the chat history to iCloud. When I go to iCloud Documents -> storage management I can see the app's data 33mb. But when I tried to import that data into my iPad Mini iOS8 via iCloud Drive I couldn't because my iPhone 4 iOS7 can't save to iCloud Drive only iCloud documents. Even my iPad gives a warning that my iPhone needs to have iOS8 before they can talk to each other.
In a perfect world I would have an iPhone with iOS8 because then I could upgrade to iCloud Drive on my iPhone and save that app data to iCloud Drive then open my iPad Mini iOS8 select the app's data in iCloud Drive and I could resume my chats from where I left off. This is a feature of the app.
Problem is on iOS7 I can only save to iCloud Documents not iCloud Drive therefore when I open my iPad Mini iOS8 I can't select that app's chat data for easy import.
What is the work around for this? Is my only option to backup my iPhone 4 in iTunes then restore that backup to my iPad Mini? This is a major mess because I only need data from that one app AND I don't want an iTunes restore to mess up my iPad's current state.
What is the purpose of iCloud Documents if I cannot select those documents for import on a non iOS8 device?
Am I missing something here? Is there a crazy easy method?
