So I've got a few shows on DVD and I'd like to back them up and save them digitally. Who can recommend a good program to do this with?

Handbrake is free. It requires vlc, also free. Handbrake works pretty easily. Handbrake will create mp4 (or equiv) from your DVD.

Alternately, you could drag the folders from the DVD to a folder on your disk, and play it from the DVD Player app.

I've been using Mac DVDRipper Pro (paid version) for a long time and find it easy to use and versatile. I'm very satisfied with it. MDRP also has a 5 instance unlimited free trial, so you can decide before you buy. Do not confuse it with another program with a very similar name.
