Hey everyone,

Just now I tried to install Windows XP through bootcamp on my mac. I did everything it said, I put it on the only partition that was available on the selector (OSX had made a new one prior to this) and it had a progress bar and everything. Eventually however, it finished and went back to the initial window, asking which partition I wanted to select. I picked the only one that was available AGAIN and it said there was already an operating system on that partition. I said cancel, and quit, and it said that Windows XP had not been installed. Now the XP CD is stuck inside the disk and it won't come out. Every time I quit, it just restarts into the same partition selection window.

Anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it?

THANKS!

I guess my Windows XP disk is service pack 1 now that I think about it. Did I just overwrite my Mac OSX partition since it was the only one on the list? How do I get Mac OSX back on there if that is the case? I can't even get the windows disk out...

Ok this discussion is similar to my problem, except that I DID overwrite the C: partition...

I guess I am screwed, but how do I fix it? I backed up all my data so that shouldn't be a problem. I just want to get mac OSX back on my computer...

First thing is to eject the Windows install disc, hold down the eject key while starting up the system. If you reinsert the OS X disc and startup from it (hold 'C' at startup), use Disk Utility from the Utilities menu to format the drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then exit out of Disk Utility and reinstall the OS. Re-run all your updates and transfer your backed up data back over. Alternatively, if you had backed up with Time Machine before attempting installation of XP, after formatting the drive with Disk Utility, also under that should be an option to restore from Time Machine backup, pick the most recent date from the list and let it run through the process.
