Help with documents on new Mac!

I'm tranferring all of my word documents over to my new mac. I have iwork installed on the mac. When I try to open any of these files it says there's an error...it makes me right click them and say open with, then select pages...is there any way to change my default program to pages instead?

Find one of the files in Finder, hit Apple+I to get the info windows, change the Open with: to Pages, then select Change All
