Help With External Drive, Please.

Hello,

I'm trying to transfer about 5GB of MP3 files from my Air to my girlfriend's Air via a 500GB Western Digital External HD. The files transfer fine from my laptop to the HD, but every time I copy from the HD to her Air, the transfer cancels at 1.02 GB. Both USB ports on her laptop have the same issue. When I try to transfer the folder from the HD back to my computer, the transfer works flawlessly.

What's up?

EDIT: after 20 tries... it "just worked."
