I have a bunch of .RDP files I have saved for the Remote Desktop Client that was recently released. They are standard XML files with an RDP extension.

I opened one up in TextEdit and modified some of the settings in the XML file.

I did not change the extension.

Now, though, when I double click the file, instead of launching Remote Desktop Client, it launches the file in TextEdit again!

How do I make it open with Remote Desktop or have TextEdit not modify it's file type when I save it?

😕

When you right-click (or ctrl-click) on the file, then after the menu pops up hold down the alt (option) key. This will change the menu slightly. Choos Show Inspector. This'll bring up an info window. Open the section that says Open With. Choose the application you want, then you can also click on the Change All button, which will change all files with that file extension.
