Help with iCloud and iPhone 4 (and syncing with MacBook)

Apologies in advance.

I finally upgraded my 2008 Aluminum MacBook to OS X Lion. I am not sure how to sync my iPhone 4. For example:

1. I updated some contact photos on my iPhone and they haven't updated on my MacBook (haven't check to see if numbers or addresses changed).

2. I did a calendar appointment (just titled it "test") and it did not update wirelessly on my MacBook.

I don't know what's going on, nor do I know how to remedy this.
