I have an new 20" Imac and just got an iPhone for x-mas. I have already IMAP'd it with my Gmail account through Google, but my Gmail is also the email I use just for the Mail on my Imac. Is there any way to IMAP the Mail on my Imac desktop to Google and my Iphone.

Does this make sense ??? I use Gmail and I want all 3 places to be sync'd up.

Yes, change you email server on mail.app to gmail's IMAP server, rather than gmail's POP server. Then all 3 will be the same.

Your goal, is how I currently have my setup. You will need to set up your mail app on your iMac and your iPhone up to both access your Gmail IMAP account.

Don't forget to turn IMAP access on in your Gmail settings as well.

If you do it right... all three locations (mail.app, iPhone, and web gmail access) will be perfectly synced at all times)

Very niiiiiice. IMAP rules!
