Hey guys

I recently upgraded my mac and want to bring in all my music into itunes, however I would prefer to conserve my playlists and ratings, which I compiled over 7 months.

Now I've backed up the entire itunes folder from my last mac, and I read on the internet to import the xml file, but it resulted in only 150 songs being imported (out of 5000) which makes no sense really.

Does anybody know of a foolproof method of doing this? Thanks!

You could use the Migration Assistant and a Firewire cable.

Otherwise the guide [guide]Copying Music from your old PC to new Mac[/guide] might be useful.

Funny thing, i did the most odd thing and it worked. I just copied the whole itunes folder to my music folder, then i clicked on a file called "iTunes Libray" i think its an xml, the file opened up itunes and it was just like my old mac, every thing is there, ratings, play counts, my podcasts even started dowloading right after. Hope it works for you.

Hey thanks this worked perfectly! Never expected it to be so simple. Well I didn't actually click iTunes library, instead I did what you said and dragged that xml file onto my itunes icon in the dock, then it opened with all my stuff right there. Thx again!
