Hi
Please help me out with this. Not my cup of tea, but I need to get through with this.

I use a Macbook Pro'09, 2.26 GHz, 2GB RAM running on Snow Leopard. In order to install WINE to use some Windows apps, I tried installing Macports 1.8.1-10.6-SnowLeopard using the package install procedure. At the last installation step, the installer paused with 'Less then a minute remaining" for about 15 minutes. I checked for macports directory in the Finder, and found a couple of folders, two of which, 'rsync.macports.org' and 'macports' were gaining size in excess of 70MB's. All the time, the installer still at "Lsss than a minute remaining". I had to force quit the installer lest it screws with something I'd not be able to rectify later.. and seek advice, which I am. :)

Because it did not prompt me to install Xcode, so I am assuming it came pre installed with the OS X DVD. I have X11 installed already as I use GIMP.

What could be the issue? Should I let the installer continue?

Thanks in advance.

You'll need to have Xcode to use MacPorts, since everything you get through it needs to be compiled. So I'd make sure that you've installed Xcode first. As for the MacPorts installation, it has to sync the ports tree with your local machine -- I'm not sure how big that is, but 70 megs doesn't seem unreasonable, so I think it's proceeding correctly.
